Meet Allie
I am currently an Elementary Special-Education Teacher in San Diego and have been advocating for all students for over 13 years.
I am a mom of three boys. Each of my children has a unique disability that has impacted their educational experience. Early on, I realized that there was something different about the way they learned. I struggled to navigate the IEP process for my own children so I have learned first-hand what it is like to be in your shoes. My children are now being given the supports necessary to make successful gains in their academic, behavioral and emotional growth.
In 2010, I started my journey to be a special education teacher. At this time, very few programs offered a degree or credential in special education. My lifestyle as a military spouse, and a full time mother were very limiting so I decided to get my bachelor’s degree in elementary education. After having two kids, and moving three times, I completed my multiple subject credential in 2015. I continued teaching kindergarten through fifth grade and was happy in the classroom but I did not feel I was fulfilling my full potential as someone who was passionate about advocating for minority populations. During the pandemic of 2020, I successfully completed my master’s degree in special education with an education specialist credential. After working in multiple special education roles, I wanted to move into a position with more flexibility while still advocating for students and in January 2023, My Special Education Consultant was born.
